[Work done from 21st July to 3rd August 2008]

24th of July we did the 1st Formal presentation. So within first one week time period we were busy with preparing a short presentation. So we discussed about the presentation, with project supervisor Dr.Chandana Gamage. We had two meetings with him during that period. Those meetings were very helpful to us regarding the presentation preparing. He gave us lots of important points for preparing and doing the presentation.

And also he advised us to publish a website for the eID project. So during this period we created website (www.project-eid.org) and published it.

After the first formal presentation about eID project, I have been working on the WSO2 Identity Solution. It is open source project developed by WSO2 and we had idea of using this open source Identity Solution in our project.

Because of the Identity Solution is a turning Point of the eID project, Dr. Chandana Gamage advice us to have a meeting with WSO2. On 25th Friday we had meeting with the Identity solution Project manager Mr.Ruchith Fernando at WSO2. In that meeting we discussed about similarities and differences between WSO2 Identity Solution and eID project. He provided lots of important information that would be helpful for implementation of the eID.

Last week we installed the Identity Solution at Level 4 project lab and we configure the that and we did testing on Identity solution. (Get OpenID and downloaded Infocard (Windows CardSpace) authentication)

[Work done from 7th July to 20th July 2008]

During this fortnight week we had a meeting with our project supervisor Dr.Chandana Gamage. We discussed about the using USB smart sticks  or normal USB memory sticks for the eID project. (USB smart sticks had internal processor but it is a commercial product).

And also we discussed about the OpenPGP and CA, which is an open source Public Key Server. So we have to decide the this technologies depend on system requirements.

Also we discussed about Kerberos Architecture and WSO2 Identity Solution.  Also Dr.Chandana Gamage gave important ideas for the first formal presentation too.

[Work done from 23rd June to 6th July 2008]

During this fortnight week we had a group meeting and we plane to do some work. In this week I did found some existing project similar to our eID project. Microsoft windows “CardSpace “has some similar functionality to our eID system. Also I studied about the Kerberos Architecture and got to know about that feasibility in our project. There are some other products I have to study more.

After we had a meeting with our Supervisor Dr. Chandana Gamage and he explain lots of things regarding the eID project and related technologies like “Kerbros Architecture”, PGP and Smart card.

And also Dr. Chandana Gamage advice us to keep contact with Mr. Ruchith Fernando, who is project manager of the WSO2 “Identity Solution”

[Work done from 9th June to 22nd June 2008]

Passed two weeks were very important period for our group. Because we identified lots of important area of our project and what are the important hardware devices for our project. Within that period we had our seconds documented meeting and discussed lot of thing regard our project. In that documented discussion we discussed about:

• how we planning to do the offline authentication of the digital Identity
• privacy issues of the digital identity and Implement the privacy-enhancing tools in the eID infrastructure to disassociate different sectors where the user is active.
• include Biometrics data such as photo,fingerprint,hands scan. eye pattern, ear pattern, voice recognition and signature.
• a electronic identity, which shouldn’t have an expiry. The eID of that particular person remains forever. but If the physical ID meet the expiry time, the owner should be able to renew that.

Also the Tec-talk discussion based on “Application of PKI for Enterprise Information Security” by Mr.Roshan Chandrasiri (Epic Lanka). After that presentation we got better understanding about the digital authentication and the what are the hardware requirement for the project.

Also still we have doubt about the using USB eToken or Smart card (which have USB interface) as authentication token of the eID system. So we are still keep searching about the those technologies in internet. How ever within next two weeks we are going to finalize which one is going to be used in our system.

And also we need to understand the web services and the Architecture of the web services with the cryptography world.

[Work done up to 8th June 2008]

We started the discussions about project within the training period and we had lots of project ideas in our minds, but after campus stared we had to come out with the best project idea of those. However after having project topics finalizing discussion, group member had decided to do eID project, which was the common interest of all group members.

After finalizing project topic we started the doing internet based researches about the eID project.

• Researchers about existing eID systems
• What are the factors that will lead to failure (Analysed failed eID systems in other counties  Eg :- Australia )
• Special Feature that can be add into eID system in Sri Lanka

We did several internet biased researchers and read lots of documentations to find out that kind valuable information for our proposed eID system.

Initially we exchanged most of the project idea via moodle forum and IM, because at that time I was at the home for couple of weeks (Celebrating New Year). However I participated to all main project discussions physically and we did other discussions via IMs.

Then we started writing the draft proposal of eID system and after several discussions we met the project supervisor Dr. Chandana Gamage several time. We wrote the draft proposal biased on the previous researches. And discussion with Dr. Chandana Gamage helped us to come out with better eID proposal. He provided lots of information/ documents about privacy of the eID system and helps us to write better project proposal.

After several weeks we wrote the draft SRS and discussed with Dr. Chandana Gamage. In that time also he provided great support to write the SRS document. This Wednesday we had documented meeting about the project and also we came out with some new ideas, about implementation of eID.
