I just wanted to do my training in networking for various reasons. May be I don't like programming or I wanted a diverse exposure or I like networking or may be some other reason. And now I'm here at WaveNET, doing my training in the implimentations team, which handles the networking part of their projects.
We have finished our first week here at WaveNET and its was a kind of a cool week and most of the guys had less (or no) work to do. Though we have been assigned to projects, we are still learning about the projects and some guys are learning languages, and all are busy with Gmail chat 🙂
Apart from that I'm working on two projects, one is a internal QA Automation System, where Praithees is doing the major part and I'm going to do the system level integration, and give help him out sometimes and we will be working on this with Sumith sir.
Also as I mentioned earlier I'm on the implementation team, which is the key area I want to focus on, and it deals with networking, server installations and stuff like that. Its going to be exciting and I found out that on the first assignment on Friday. I had to install OS on four servers (the rack mounted ones) with the help of some guys there. Then I had to take those to the Mobitel Servers site in Kelaniya and it was already around 6.30pm when we left the office.
It was a kind of a different experience for me. And there were another five guys at that site fixing the racks and other stuff. It was a all HP set-up, including the servers, racks and everything. There we some issues like not fitting correctly. pinching my finger in a rail lock, and problems with network interface bonding. Finally we finished there at around 1.30am (the next day 🙂 ) and came back home in the van. One the way had my dinner(?) also.
Hoping to have more fun and exciting moments while training (& learning) in the days to come…
So this is going to be the story for this week I hope…
Ohh… haven’t I mentioned what..?
Its the happening things at training….
And what happens…?
Won’t say nothing, but will look so. Just learning more new stuff, in Project management, QA, QA Automation, and tools like Selenium, LuntBuild, CruiseControl and more. So I want say its interesting, but ok. Have to deal with it…
Hope for a better change soon…
Its the day…
The first day at WaveNET, where I’ll be going my industrial training for the next 24 weeks or so. There are another 6 more guys with me from CSE for this training. As its the first day we planned to be there bit early, and we were there at around 8.45am. But we had to wait at the reception for about another 30 minutes, and we were called for a small meeting with Mr.Dilum.
In that session we were introduced to the organizational structure and the products that are developed at WaveNET. Mr.Sumith (Our lecturer for the Database module last semester) also was there. After this brief session we went to another small meeting which was for all the employees where they announced about the couple of awards won for some of the projects. At the end of this we had refreshments, and hopefully few would be the only few guys to start our training with eating and drinking…!
Next to this we were taken around and got introduced to each and everyone there. (But I hardly remember any of those names… let it take some time…) After this we were asked to stay in a place at first floor as there were no PCs ready for us. And were there till noon. Then we went out and bought lunch packets, and I thought it might be easy for me if I could bring lunch from home everyday. There is just another option of eating at DineMore, but we are not going to do that ‘only because’ it can’t be ‘submarine’ everyday… 🙂
After lunch there was just another session with Sumith Sir, where he introduced us to all the technologies used internally at the organization. It was a very useful one, and we were able to at least hear some of those words, which I hope we’ll learn soon… At the end of this session Mr.Dilum told us our team allocations and I am allocated to the Implementation team. Then I was taken to the first floor, and Praitheesh was with me as his QA team was also on that floor. But as we had no PCs allocated for us, we were given a single PC to be shared for the day.
We were given user names and passwords for personal login and we spent the rest of the day browsing through the internal wiki, learning about the products and other stuff. I spent some time on creating a page for myself on wiki and there was nothing for both of us to do there. Again for the tea time we got cake and had tea. It was already around 5.30pm, when we finished all these, so we packed up from there for the day…!
And what I’m expecting for tomorrow… I haven’t got the ID card yet, also have to get to know about something about the nature of work…. Expecting more better things to come…
The exams were over… and another one useful/less week has gone passed, Now its time for the show time…!
Yes… Its our Undergraduate Industrial Training! (Personally I don't prefer this work, but they call it officially so…) It will be this for the next 6 months or so for all of us and I hope we get good things as expected 🙂
And I'll have to report to Mr. Dilum Kumarasinghe, General Manager, Wavenet (Pvt) Ltd at 9.00am. I haven't been to that place before as I was not called over for an interview, but I hope thing will be better than I could expect… 🙂 Anyway I thought of sleeping early today and getting up early, which I haven't done for sometime. So let me stop here. Peace…!
(Also keep looking at this space for more updates on this)
