Only a few of us are aware that today is Computer Security Day, (http://www.computersecurityday.org/) which had lost its prominence in the global arena, but its still vital to remember something about computer/information security on this day.
Some of you might think you are in a secure organizational environment, with all those big-big security precautions, what on earth could happen? You might be right, you might have looked into many big things to secure from, specially about the information security of your organization, but still you might not be paying much attention into small things such as your personal accounts, email, passwords, etc., mostly the on-line services. So this would be a good area to pay attention and think about today.
One thing you could do…?
There is a lot that can be done, but lets start with a simple one. Most of us have a single password to all our emails and we give the same to websites when we register into a forum or something else. And here is the catch. We won’t know whether all these sites are secure and our passwords wont go away. So lets do one simple thing, just make the one password policy to two. One for our emails and the other for when we register. In this way we can be sure the website we are registering won’t know our email password, thus they are less likely to exploit our authentication details.
There are lot more things that could be done, so when you are free read some of these links, or there is lot more about this on-line to refer.
Be Prepared… Be Secure…
