What shall we do on Computer Security Day?

Only a few of us are aware that today is Computer Security Day, (http://www.computersecurityday.org/) which had lost its prominence in the global arena, but its still vital to remember something about computer/information security on this day.

Some of you might think you are in a secure organizational environment, with all those big-big security precautions, what on earth could happen? You might be right, you might have looked into many big things to secure from, specially about the information security of your organization, but still you might not be paying much attention into small things such as your personal accounts, email, passwords, etc., mostly the on-line services. So this would be a good area to pay attention and think about today.

One thing you could do…?

There is a lot that can be done, but lets start with a simple one. Most of us have a single password to all our emails and we give the same to websites when we register into a forum or something else. And here is the catch. We won’t know whether all these sites are secure and our passwords wont go away. So lets do one simple thing, just make the one password policy to two. One for our emails and the other for when we register. In this way we can be sure the website we are registering won’t know our email password, thus they are less likely to exploit our authentication details.

There are lot more things that could be done, so when you are free read some of these links, or there is lot more about this on-line to refer.

Computer Security Day, November 30th

Computer Security Day is an annual event that is observed worldwide. It was started in 1988 to help raise awareness of computer related security issues. The goal of Computer Security Day is to remind people to protect their computers and information. Officially, Computer Security Day is November 30th. Computer Security Day is a great opportunity for information security professionals and their organizations to raise the level of awareness within their users.

For 2007 the theme for CSD will be "Taking Action". Each individual is responsible and plays a part in protecting information assets and resources. These include:

  • Viruses
  • PC security
  • Firewalls
  • Using strong passwords
  • Social engineering
  • Physical security of information resources and assets

Plan a great CSD event for your organization and get your users involved with protecting your computers and information. For more info visit http://www.computersecurityday.org/

Digital Photography School

Digital Photography School is a website with simple tips to help digital camera owners get the most out of their cameras. This site is dedicated purely with ‘how to’ tips for digital photography.

If you are an advanced digital camera user you might find some of what is written on this site a little basic, but it’s the new to semi experienced digital camera owner (like me) this site is really really useful and informative.

This ‘School’ is not a formal one by any means. There are no classes, no teachers, no exams – rather it’s a learning environment where they write articles and we read, and in the forum where sharing what we’re learning by showing our photos and ask and answer each other questions.

Additional information is this site is by Darren Rowse and who is the guy behind Digital Photography Blog, a site dedicated to digital camera news and reviews. I think this second site will also be very useful to you, when you are up to buying a digital camera.

I hope you enjoy Digital Photography School and Digital Photography Blog.
