Tweets and Results – A Post Exam Analysis

Level 4 Semester 1 exams are now history and I have already posted my in-time thoughts sometime back in this blog. Now the results have arrived and just though of doing an analysis on what I have thought just after the exams (my Tweets) against the results I’ve got. I’ll say the conclusion in the beginning, thus those who don’t want to read this can skip.

Conclusions:

  • My estimations were wrong (less likely)
  • Examiners did some mistake (I’d say less likely)
  • Read and decide (Recommended)

The Matrix Runs on Windows

Take the red pill. Get the blue screen.

“The Matrix Runs on Windows” is a hilarious video that describes some of the “great featues” we get with Windows and other Microsoft products.

The video ends with a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death ) and finally saying “Ubuntu, I’m going to learn Ubuntu“.

WebSVN – Web-based Subversion Browser

I am working on my final year project (Project eID) these days, and I had to setup the SVN repository at our domain, and that worked fine, thanks to Dreamhost One-Click Subversion installation. But then I looked out for a web based Subversion repository browser so things could look a little more nicer and found WebSVN. is the easiest among other similar ones interms of ease of install and features.

WebSVN is a web based Subversion browser written in the PHP programming language. It took less than 10 minutes to install. WebSVN supports templates, so I might want to port it to our own design if time permits.

I just installed it and I'll have to play around a little more with it to get a better picture on it, but as of now I like it and suggest it.

Just check out my installation at http://svn.project-eid.org/

October 2008: Credit Crunch & Tech Layoffs

This is not the golden time for tech community. Specially a lot of my friends in US and India are in fear of the recent layoffs of many IT companies. This is just another post October 2008 credit crunch effect, that is mainly affecting the BPO and IT industries which were mainly dependent on US based business.

Many start-ups in the US have started preparing for an uncertain economic future by cutting costs and improving on efficiency. And the most common way to achieve this has been through layoffs. Also many major players in the South Asian IT industries, such as Infosys, TCS, IBM India, Sathyam, Virtusa India, Virtusa Sri Lanka and many others have already started this and most of there core businesses were US client based. The companies that sustained this are the one who has there own products or the service based companies who focused on non-US markets.

I just think of all these as an undergraduate who is supposed to get into the industry in another 6 months. I hope things could get better in days to come, but still our IT industry should divercify itself to sustain this kind of cricis that could arise in future.
